Ionamin is a branded type of Phentermine where the drug is set in resin, so as to produce a time release medication / pill. Some people, with sensitive stomachs or other reactions to immediate release generic Phentermine/ Adipex, prefer Ionamin.

Manufactured by Medeva Pharmaceuticals, Ionamin® Capsules deliver Phenterminevia a special delivery system called resin matrix. Ionamin is the only resin matrix capsule available in the market. No other Phentermineproduct has this resin matrix and no available generic drugs can be substituted for Ionamin® Capsules.

How does it work?

Ionamin is a Phentermine-based resin that acts to suppress the appetite.

How to take It:

Ionamin is best taken on an empty stomach approximately one hour before breakfast each morning. Because this medication may cause sleeplessness, avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take Ionaminas prescribed. Do not take it more often or longer than directed. Use in combination with other appetite suppressant medication is generally not recommended.

How effective is It?

Ionamin is an effective form of weight loss therapy for the patient that needs to lose weight to decease diseases associated with significant obesity. The amount of the weight loss will depend on the degree of caloric restriction and the use of exercise.

How long can I take It?

Ionamin is a short-term drug that helps you to start losing weight and then keep on going when you are ready to carry on. Your body starts to build up a resistance to the effects of this medication after a few weeks of treatment.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor about all the medicines you buy, (prescription and nonprescription) especially if you buy high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any other weight loss medicine. Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.

Side Effects:

Blurred vision, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or become bothersome, contact your doctor. If Ionamin makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Do not drink.

Moderate:

Chest pain, pounding heart, and breathing difficulties or swelling while taking this medication may occur.

Severe:

Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) and cardiac valvular disease have been reported in patients receiving a combination of Phentermineand fenfluramine (phen-fen) or dexfenfluramine. The possibility of an association between PPH and the use of
Ionamin alone cannot be ruled out.

Contra-indications:

Ionaminshould not be taken by patients with arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and moderate to severe hypertension.
